INSIDE MY SKIN
By Nicole Alifante and Marc Shulman
Performed by Melvin Cox
G:Verse 1- If just for one day I could leave my skin. Maybe for one day, I could be a kid. They think I’m in the dark. I know the world is hard. Can’t drop the ball because I’m chained to it
G: Verse 2 - How can I celebrate my legacy, when they keep telling me I’m still not free? I know I’m powerful !Don’t shame the colorful. I’ll just rewrite the dream to include me.
Chorus
Everything is black and white. Paint me gray!
I need to walk the earth. Getta outta my way!
Somebody tell me, where do I begin, if I have to live inside my skin?
G: Verse 3 - I want to turn my body inside out. Don’t tell me I’m not free to scream and shout. Do you hear what I say? Don’t want to play the game. Someday it might be me who keeps you down!
Chorus
Everything is black and white. Paint me gray !
I need to walk the earth. Get outta my way!
Somebody tell me, where do I begin, if I have to live inside my skin?
G: Bridge
Father! Mother! Make no apologies for me! Our history is killing me!
Chorus
Everything is black and white. Paint me gray!
I need to walk the earth. Get outta my way!
Somebody Tell Me Where Do I Begin ? Somebody Tell ME Where Do I Begin?
If I have to live inside my .....If I have to live inside my skin
